Endocarditis

Endocarditis

  • It generally occurs when bacteria or other germs from another part of your body, such as your mouth, spread through your bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in your heart.
  • Left untreated, endocarditis can damage or destroy your heart valves and can lead to life-threatening complications.
  • Pathogen ID does not help in diagnosing endocarditis ~ the same pathogen (e.g. S. aureus) that can cause endocarditis is also consistent with skin contaminant.

InSpector-01 can help diagnose endocarditis

Endocarditis is an example of an intravascular infection ~ an infection within the bloodstream itself.  As such, the bloodstream is constantly seeded with pathogenic microorganisms, and the blood draw will be infected 100% of the time.  This is unlike the situation with other types of infection, where the blood draw will be infected only about 10% of the time (if the underlying cause is due to a skin contaminant), or to about 60% of the time (if the underlying cause is due to some other type of localized infection)

InSpector-01 can rapidly analyze a series of blood draws from the patient (for example, 4 blood draws spread over 2 hours), and determine if they are all infected.  If they are, then the patient likely has endocarditis
