Executive Team

Ravi Verma, PhD CEO  Ravi received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from Virginia Tech, and a B.Tech in Metallurgy from IIT Kharagpur, India. He did his post-doctoral training at DuPont Central Research, and also at the California Institute of Technology.  Ravi has been bootstrapping Spectral Platforms since 2011.  Prior to that, he was a Senior Scientist at Tanner Research Inc. where he managed a number of DoD funded projects.

Craig Malina, JD Exec VP/Legal Affairs  Craig has represented the business and legal interests of companies, investors, and entrepreneurs since 1995.  He has led strategic corporate transactions including IPOs, complex joint ventures, financings, licensing and intellectual property deals, and commercial transitions.

CJ Yu, PhD Chief Scientific Officer  CJ is a serial entrepreneur, with Spectral Platforms being the 4th start up company he has been involved with.  His responsibilities include product development, and the compilation of our technical file.   He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of GlyPort Inc.  Prior to working for GlyPort Inc., CJ was Vice President of Research & Development at AquaNano LLC.  He was also one of the first employees at Clinical Microsensors, a company acquired by Motorola for $300,000,000.

Board of Directors

Prof. Robert Grubbs.  Bob is the Victor and Elizabeth Atkins Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology.  He has received numerous professional fellowships and awards, including the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2005, and is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  Robert is also a founder, director or advisor to numerous technology companies, including Cyrano Sciences, Coelacanth, Pharmacopeia, Insert Therapeutics, Calhoun Vision and Symyx Technologies.

Prof. Scott Fraser.  From 1991 until 2012, Scott was the Anna L.  Rosen Professor of Biology and Professor of Engineering and Applied Science at the California Institute of Technology, where he served as director of the Biological Imaging Center and the founding director of the Rosen Center for Biological Engineering.  In September 2012 he moved to the University of Southern California, where he is a Provost Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Biological Science as well as the Director of Science Initiatives.  He is known for his development of imaging techniques for the study of cellular morphogenesis.  Learn more about Scott's research activities here.  Scott has been a member of the Spectral Platforms board since 2014

James Shepard  Jim is a Founder and Managing Partner at GenNx360 Capital Partners. Prior to that, Jim served for 27 years with General Electric in a number of senior management positions covering commercial, industrial, medical and defense industries. Most recently, Jim held the position of President and CEO of GE Infrastructure Sensing, a 3,200-employee-strong global business, created from acquisitions, which grew under his leadership to a value of over $450M. This platform was one of the key initiatives for growth in GE during this time. Prior to that, Jim was promoted to a GE Company officer as the Vice President and General Manager of GE Healthcare Service, a $1.5B medical equipment, bio-medical, and information technology service business.

Jim received his BS in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University and then went on to the University of Pennsylvania to earn his MS in systems engineering. He is a member of MAIN, a Philadelphia based organization that offers guidance and invests in minority owned or led enterprises.
